Patimban Port: Indonesia’s New Export Gateway on the North Coast of Java

Patimban Port

Patimban Port, located in Subang, West Java, is one of Indonesia’s national strategic projects, playing a vital role in strengthening the country’s logistics chain and international trade. With a planned container capacity of up to 7 million TEUs and an automotive terminal capable of handling 600,000 vehicles annually, Patimban is set to become a modern deep-sea port that supports export industries while driving equitable economic growth.

Capacity and Modern Facilities

The development of Patimban Port is being carried out in stages:

  • Initial phase: ~250,000 TEUs per year
  • 2027: 3.3 million TEUs
  • 2032: 6.1 million TEUs
  • 2042: ~7 million TEUs (Dephub)

In addition to its container terminal, the port features a dedicated Car Terminal with an annual capacity of 600,000 units, making it the largest automotive export distribution hub in the region (Ocean Week).

Patimban Access Toll Road

To ensure smooth distribution, the government is constructing the 37.05 km Patimban Access Toll Road, which will connect directly to the Cipali Toll Road. Scheduled for completion in 2025, this project will accelerate the movement of goods to and from Jakarta, Bandung, and the broader Trans-Java corridor (Detik Finance).

Patimban SEZ and Economic Impact

Patimban Port does not stand alone. Surrounding it, the government is developing the Patimban Special Economic Zone (SEZ) covering 511 hectares, with an investment target of Rp 141.6 trillion and the potential to create 156,000 jobs (Fortune IDN).

The SEZ will attract industries such as electronics, semiconductors, automotive, and petrochemicals, reinforcing the Rebana Metropolitan Area as a new corridor of economic growth in West Java (Ocean Week).

Conclusion

With its massive container capacity, modern automotive terminal, direct toll road access, and the support of the Patimban SEZ, Patimban Port is not just an infrastructure project, it is Indonesia’s new maritime gateway, ready to boost global trade while unlocking industrial investment opportunities in West Java.
